Anno Domini 2024
Anno Domini 2024 Overview
Anno Domini is an astronomical calendar/almanac program which is designed to accompany the many personal information managers (PIMs) on the market and has the following major features (screen grabs below):
For an in-depth analysis of the above functions, please view the screen shots and descriptions below:
Display a Gregorian Calendar for any month from the years 1753 and 2150. You can choose between Sunday or Monday as the starting day of the week, weekends are highlighted in red and the appearance of the calendar can also be changed by selecting any installed Truetype font for the calendar display. The calendar dates can be selected with the mouse to display date and astronomical information relating to that date;
Keep track every second of the day of the current day of week, date, time, business week number, days elapsed in the current year, days left in the current year, the current star sign, your current location in the world along with time zone and whether your location observes Daylight Saving Time and also the times of sunrise, transit, daylight hours and sunset for your location in the world. Also for your set location, you can keep track in real time the exact position of the Sun and Moon with details such as compass position and altitude above the horizon;
For each calendar date selected, you can view the times of sunrise, transit and sunset for your chosen location on Earth;
For each calendar date selected, you can view the times of moonrise, transit and moonset for your chosen location on Earth;
You can view the moon phases for any given month from the year 1753 to the year 2150 and show the dates and times at which the Moon phases occur for your chosen location on Earth. You can also view the illuminated fraction and tilt of the Moon and watch it update in real-time;
View calendar statistics between any two chosen dates, calculated on the fly each time you select a date on the calendar. Statistics such as days elapsed, number of weekends, number of working days, and the number of each individual week days between the chosen dates are displayed. Also, for the currently selected calendar date, you can view the event that occurs on that date and the next event which will occur in Anno Domini's database of events;
For each calendar month, a unique image from nature is displayed in full 32-bit colour. An example for the month of July is shown below:
View the event and Saint whose feast is celebrated on that day. Also view a countdown in days to the next calendar event along with a random quote from the database of quotations supplied:
Below the main calendar you can choose between 4 different views. The default view is that of the illuminated fraction of the Moon, but you can also choose to view calendars for the subsequent months as below:
You can also choose to view and edit your diary entry for the current day, an example of which is shown below:
All of the above elements form the main Calendar window tab, an example of which is shown below:
The Moon Phases tab will display for the currently selected month and the subsequent two months, the dates and times of all moon phases. The background image of the Moon can also be changed to an image of your choosing:
The Events tab displays the major national holidays and events for England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe for any given year until the year 2150 whilst also highlighting the bank holidays and the next event which will occur in relation to the current date. Also, all of the major Christian festivals including the moveable events such as Easter Sunday and Advent Sunday for any given year from 1753 to 2150 are also calculated and displayed for the selected calendar year. The background image can be changed to an image of your choosing:
The Event Editor tab allows you to create your own anniversaries and birthdays to keep track of throughout the year. All events can be edited at a future date and quite complex rules can be applied to your events. Up to ten different schemes of events can be created which you can easily switch between:
The Astronomy tab shows astronomical data regarding the Sun and the Moon such as their times of rise and set, distances from Earth, compass directions and altitudes. You can also view the times of dawn and dusk and also the angle and fraction of the illuminated limb of the Moon, all update in real time for your chosen location on Earth. The background image can be changed to an image of your choosing:
The On This Day tab displays for the current date or selected date historical events which occurred on that date in the past and the birth dates of famous people from the past and the modern day who celebrate their birthday on that date. The database of events and birthdays can be edited to the users taste and the information can be pasted into your own documents. Updates to the database will be made available on the Anno Domini web-site:
The Location tab allows you to select your city and country specific details such as latitude, longitude and time zone on Earth from a database of over 500 cities (divided by continent) from around the world. You can also add your own user-defined locations with full editing facilities. A colourful display of the world is shown to help you determine your time zone. Anno Domini has a database of rules to determine Daylight Saving Time for all locations around the world which can be amended if necessary. Apart from your own location, Anno Domini can also store 7 other locations from around the world where you can view the times in those locations in real time (taking fully into account any adherence to Daylight Saving Time) along with useful information such as latitude, longitude, time zone, distance and the sunrise, transit and sunset times for that location.
The Clocks tab gives you a very simplified comparison of all of your chosen locations by displaying the time in each location which is updated every second;
The Sundial tab allows you to view areas of the Earth in real time that are currently in darkness or daylight. You can also zoom into any area of the world to see better the transition from daylight to darkness and vice versa;
The Conversions tab allows you to quickly and easily convert between imperial and metric units for many measurements such as temperature, volume, distance, area, velocity and weight. Any of the results can be copied and pasted into other documents or manipulated via the Calculator function provided:
The Reports tab allows you to send to the printer various reports such as a yearly calendar, the dates and times of all moon phases for your location for the selected year, a full list of all events occurring in that year from your database and a bi-monthly report of the times of sunrise, moonrise, transit, sunset and moonset for your chosen location on Earth. Other reports include a 3 month view, your diary entries for a calendar month and a yearly planner. You can also preview how the information will appear on paper via the Preview option;
Finally, you can preview all twelve images of nature via the Image Catalog tab. Further packs of images can be added later.
